My Macbook has suddenly started to lag a LOT

Help! A few days ago when I went to open my computer to wake it and log in, it took so long that I decided to turn it off. That didn't solve anything because when I went to turn it on again it wouldn't charge after the white apple sign with the little gray bar. So I left it and it drained the battery. Then today I noticed that it was off and connected it which made it turn on inmediately, but since I had to go to school I left it turning on. When I came back, my computer was HOT, and still no sign of loading. I turned it off again and left it to rest. Finally I turned it on again and it has taken forever to simply open Chrome and load this page to write this. I don't understand what's going on, especially because everything has been going fine.

My Macbook Pro is a late 2011 13", it has been cleaned, several times. Although maybe it's time for another cleaning. If someone could help me I would be very grateful.

See if you can boot into Safe Mode which disables any unnecessary drivers, startup & login items as well as running a file system check and removing some temp & cache files. It will take a bit longer to boot than normal and the display may flash or flicker due to the very basic video driver used in Safe Mode.

To check the health of the hard drive run DriveDX and post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.

See if you can also run EtreCheck and post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.

If you cannot boot the laptop to run these apps, then see if you can run the Apple Hardware Test. You may not be able to access the AHT on an older system.

If you are unable to do any of the above, then you can check the health of the hard drive using the following method:

If you cannot boot to macOS, then the easiest way to check the health of the drive is by creating a bootable Knoppix Linux USB drive using Etcher (Mac/Windows/Linux). Option Boot the USB drive and select the orange icon labeled "EFI".

Once at the Knoppix desktop, click on the "Start" menu in the lower left of the Taskbar and navigate to "System Tools --> GSmartControl". Within the GSmartControl app double-click on the internal laptop drive icon which will open up the health report for the drive. Post a copy of the complete report here either as a picture or using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.

Edit: Sometimes it may seem the computer is frozen on the Apple boot picker menu when trying to boot Knoppix. Sometimes it can take a while (5 - 10 minutes) before you may see any signs Knoppix is booting (it is a Mac thing). It could take much longer if the hard drive is failing.
