Send an email to a Smart Group in Apple Contacts

I have several Smart Groups in my Apple Contacts app and want to send an email to the members of one of the Smart Groups.

When I type the name of the Smart Group into the To: field of an email, the names of the matching Smart Groups appear but when I click on a Group name, it goes into the To: field as plain text. It is not clickable and no email addresses appear in the field.

Can anyone confirm that it's not possible to send an email to a Smart Group in this way?

I also have "normal" Groups in my Contacts app, listed under iCloud and I can send emails to groups using the procedure I've described without any problems.

Thanks,

Mark

I've the same issue.

If you right-click the smart group in Contacts app and select Send Email to..., then the e-mail message is correctly filled with recipients.
