Connect AirPods to a Bluetooth Transmitter

I want to pass along my experience so others might avoid the testing I did to find out that this combination does not work. First of all, I want to say that I think AirPods are great, but they are designed to be used with other Apple products, and in that regard they are fabulously integrated.

I have a Bluetooth transmitter connected to my LG smart TV, and I have a BT speaker connected to that. My hearing is getting worse so now I want to use BT earbuds. I did some research found I could connect AirPods to my transmitter. Yesterday I purchased a pair of AirPods 2. Yes, they can be paired, but when the AirPods sleep, charge, or they get connected to my iPhone, the connection the BT transmitter is lost. Then the AirPods and transmitter need to be repaired. That is no good. Also, there is no way to control the volume of the AirPods when connected to the BT transmitter. In fact, the volume is set at a level that cannot be adjusted at all.
