Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports): Faulty Battery.

My use without adapter was very minimal. I always use it with Dock and big screen monitor. Anytime, I had to mobile and present to anyone- Darn thing never worked despite reboots and reinstalling OS a couple of times. I have beee on month long road trip in Europe and it really sucks cause power plugs are not available all the times to be able to use my MacBook Pro.

Based on the Mac-help it seems that Battery needs to be serviced...

I visited Apple store in Barcelona and was told to make online appointment. I am not back in US until first week of December- May be that is my only last option left.

Any pointers, things to try, advice..

Thanks,

-Anil

Try an SMC reset.

Check the condition of the battery by Option clicking the battery icon on the menu bar. If the condition is anything except "Normal" or "Good" then the battery should be replaced. You can also try running the Apple Diagnostics.

If the battery condition is normal and the SMC reset doesn't help, then check for possible software issues by running Etrecheck. Post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.

Thanks for all the pointers and links. I have attached the EtreCheck report that claims to change the battery. Spoke to Apple support. No coverage. No explanation why this serial number is not covered. Was told that I will have to drop my Mac notebook for 5-10 business days for repair/replacement.

Who can live without notebook now a days for 5-10 days. May be rich and prevelaged people- that I am not :-(

Got an appointment to visit authorizes reseller today. Let us see how it goes. Keeping fingers crossed..

Later,

It would seem your battery is defective since EtreCheck mentions the battery condition is "Service Battery". The free repair programs are only for certain serial number ranges where Apple had determined a manufacturing defect exists. Sometimes the laptop must be experiencing a specific type of failure even if a laptop serial number qualifies for a repair program. Only an Apple technician can determine if the computer fully qualifies for any repair program since Apple provides the technician with very specific instructions on how to determine eligibility.

Remove both CleanMyMac and the Symantec software by following the developer's instructions. AV & cleaning apps are not needed on a Mac and usually cause more problems than they solve and will impact system performance. You should also never have multiple AV apps installed since they will interfere with each other. If your school or employer require AV software to be installed, then keep the Symantec software or see if they would accept MalwareBytes as an alternative.

from EtreCheck report:
Adware:
Launchd: ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.pcv.hlprmcp.plist
Executable: ~/Library/Application Support/mcp/helpermcp.app/Contents/MacOS/helpermcp
Reason: Adware developer match

You have Adware on your system. After removing CMM & Symantec, run MalwareBytes to clean the Adware from your system.
