New MacBook Pro 2019 storage space issue - confused?

Hi there community

Hoping someone can help with my confusion re storage space. Just bought 2nd hand MBpro 2019, reset to factory following online instructions so I have a fresh install with very little apps/photos installed (see screenshot).

My confusion is that the system is telling me I only have 21gb of 121gb drive remaining which makes no sense whatsoever with a fresh install. I need to migrate my docs/files/apps from old MBpro but can't as there appears to be no space left. There's a duplicate (greyed out. unmounted) Mac HD - data volume but I have no idea if that's the issue or something else. The storage overview is showing 59.8gb in other volumes in container.

I'd be grateful if anyone could shed some light on this issue as I can't seem to find anything online.

UPDATE - I think I solved the issue!

I mounted the greyed our volume which then showed up as an additional drive in finder. This also changed the available space to 80gb which seems correct as 40gb is being used of a 128gb drive. I then deleted the APFS Volume and now I'm back to a single drive with 80gb of space.

Forget the storage view - Spotlight is notorious for losing track of file types and counting things as "other". But even though "Other" might be wildly wrong, the amount of space used and left are accurate. It really doesn't take much to fill up a 128GB hard drive. If you want to get an accurate measure of how your drive is being used, I can recommend 2 excellent programs. OmniDiskSweeper is a free app and DaisyDisk (look in the App Store) is shareware.

I still can't reconcile the values showing on storage or disk utility and having looked on OmniDiskSweeper the numbers add up quite similar.

VOLUMES IN DISK UTILITY

1. Mac HD - 11gb used/90GB other volumes/20gb free (I think this is the system files)

2. Mac HD - Data - 29gb used/71gb other volumes/20gb free (I think this is my apps/files/docs)

3. Mac HD - Data - (unmounted and greyed out)

TOTAL = 40gb
