iPod Nano on Linux

Are iPods usable without iTunes s/w? E.g. Is it possible to use an iPod on Linux OS? see the drive and than just upload mp3 to the device?

There are programs that will allow you to manage your Nano using Linux. What they won't allow you to do is 1)Access the iTunes Store, 2)Restore your iPod should it need it, and 3)Update the firmware.

And no, iPods don't support drag and drop in the way that you're asking. You do need to use some type of program to manage the content.

Try putting "iPod Linux" into your favorite search engine. You may also want to try putting the same search terms in the Search Discussions box. The topic comes up every once in a while. Wikipedia used to have a comparison chart of different iPod managers. It would probably turn up with a quick search of the site.
