Icloud not accepting my correct email password on outlook for mac

This is the message I get when I type in the correct password for my iCloud email account on my mac mini 2012 running macOS Mojave version 10.14.6 on the latest (and every other) version of Outlook for Mac.

I know I have entered the correct user name and password because I checked it by logging into iCloud using the web browser and it worked straight away.

You need to enable 2 Factor Authentication on your Apple ID and create an app specific password to use. If your account won’t allow 2 Factor Authentication, try 2 step verification.
