Why can't my iPod remember where I stopped listening to my podcast?

I updated my Macbook and installed the new Podcast app, which frankly stinks. The navigation is terrible and it's harder to update podcasts (the auto refresh is BS). Worst of all, I use an iPod and the new Podcast app has stripped away a lot of necessary features. Not only does the iPod have issue remembering what podcasts I want to keep on it, it doesn't remember my playback position on my podcasts. Every time I have to search for where I left off. It's frustrating.

I am not ever going to listen to podcasts on my phone -- the Bluetooth audio stinks and I prefer to save memory for pictures. Also, compared to my iPod, the iPhone is way too big. Will there be an update to fix this issue?
