Cannot login to old iPhone

I have an iPhone 5c that I need to use as a backup at the moment. Long ago, I changed my iCloud to a new email address and didn’t update it on my 5c. Now, I cannot sign out of my 5c because it’s still logged into my old iCloud account with an email address that no longer exists. Any suggestions on how to do a factory reset under these circumstances?

If necessary, if you are the original owner, take the device, the original purchase receipt with the serial number, and a photo ID to the nearest Apple Store.

or contact Apple ID Support. They will need to see the original purchase receipt/paperwork also.
