Catalina Trash Permission - Downloads

Weird problem that I haven't been able to overcome. When deleting files from Downloads folder the files do not go to the Trash can, I get a popup to ask if I want to permanently delete the file.

Desktop, documents etc are all behaving normally and files go to trash.

Sudo commands no longer work since the upgrade to Catalina.

Logging in via Safe Mode makes no difference.

Any ideas?

What are the actual permissions of the files in the Downloads folder (try this in a Terminal window):

cd ~/Downloads
ls -lae@

This will show permissions and attributes of all files in the Downloads folder. Post the command and results and can give more feedback as to what the problem might be. Change any info that might reveal personal info (change it, don't just remove it as context is important).

Good luck...

It's not normal for your folders in ~/Downloads to have those directory permissions -- are you using some sort of "cleaner" app on your Mac? The com.apple.macl attribute doesn't look normal, anyway I've never seen it before.

Is this a shared computer or are you the only one using it?

You have basically denied the system access to your Downloads folder (and I would guess perhaps others), so that is the source of the problem -- the "normal" permissions of folders is "755", not "700" like you have.

You have basically shot yourself in the foot -- stop trying to outsmart the system and you will be much better off.

Good luck...
