I get a grey triangle with a white exclamation point when I try to open photos added after I upgraded to El Capitan.

Check Photo's General preference pane to see if you're running a "managed' or "referenced" library.

If it's a "referenced" library then the source photos have been moved from where they were when imported.

Thanks for your response. I checked. I have a managed library. I contacted Apple Support and was told that HEIC photos are not compatible with El Capitan. I was told to change my phone’s camera setting from high efficiency to most compatible, this way I will be able to access any photos added after the setting is changed but not photos before this. I wonder if there is an app or program that converts HEIC photos to JPEGs? If this a duplicate response, I apologize.
