iPhone 4 WiFi issues

I have been struggling with the WiFi on my iphone 4 since I received it. It will download a lot of websites without any problems, but some websites it will just get "Stuck" and run and run, with eventually an error message saying the page cannot be opened. I thought maybe this was specific to particular websites, but I found out differently. I still have my iPhone 3Gs, and connected it to WiFi right next to the iPhone 4. The web pages (Example: Youtube) would load videos and play them lightening fast on the iPhone 3Gs. At the exact same time, the iPhone 4 would attempt to load the video for about 10-15 seconds, and give me an error message, "Video format not supported". When I switched the WiFi off on the iPhone 4 and used AT&T service only, it played the video almost just as quick as the iPhone 3Gs connected to WiFi. I have repeated this problem over and over again, and receive the same results. The iPhone 3Gs always downloads without hesitation, the iPhone 4 always stops responding or results in an error message. NOTE: Both devices always show full strength in WiFi connection, and I am sitting right next to my WiFi router. Again, iPhone 3Gs always downloads with no problems, iPhone 4 always stops downloading and creates an error, specifically on the YouTube web site, and the YouTube application. Does anyone else have this problem? I have owned every model of the iphone, and never had this problem until the iPhone 4? Please let me know what could cause his issue, thanks.

I had the same problem bw73 - I took my phone back to the store, had a genius bar guy take a look. He thought the WiFi was faulty so he gave me a new phone. Then 2 more - all had the same slow loadtime versus my 3GS.

Eventually the head guy came over to see what the problem was. He told me that the reason why it takes longer is that the new iphone will try and download video clips in the highest resolution possible. The current version of youtube will not allow you to select the resolution so we are stuck with ultra-slow load times.

Its not ideal - I am hoping that Apple updates the OS to accomodate for this.

I was having a problem with download speeds using my iphone 4 (still am). I used the speedtest.net app to test the download speeds because websites and youtube were loading much slower than my iphone 3G. The results were shocking, on a 10mb broadband connection i was getting less than 2mb - if that on my iphone. not an issue with my mac or pc. I read an earlier post mentioning the b and g settings of a wireless router and thought i'd mess about with those setting on my own router. The router i own is a N rated. When is is running at its full potential with b/g/n operating my iphone speeds are rubbish. If i change the routers setting to use only either b or g and then run the speedtest.net app again i get upwards of 5mb download from the iphone 4. I'd rather not have to run my router at a lower setting especially when the iphone 4 is stated to be able to handle 802.11b/g/n. Apple needs to sort this out. Why is the problem only when using b/g/n together?

I've seen posts that suggest switching the router to "b" only but I have an airport express so I don't know if I can even do that with it?

I've also thought recently that it may be a YouTube issue since other sites like DailyMotion don't seem to have the same problem. Maybe YouTube is just overloaded?

I have been having a problem the last couple of days with the wifi on my iP4 after about 3 weeks on my home wifi network with no problems. We have 3 iPhones in the family, a 3G, 3GS and my iP4. My iP4 suddenly lost the wifi and would not re-acquire it no matter what I did. Our laptops and other iPhones had no problems. I renewed the lease, reset network settings, re-booted, and even restored to factory settings as a new phone. Still no luck. Finally I started reading this thread and was getting ready to try to change the settings on my router since I had re-booted the router with no luck either. I had a hunch and started turning off the other iPhones and laptops. After restoring to new phone settings again, I was finally able to log into our wifi, w/o changing any router settings. The iP4 wifi receiver definitely seems to be weak as our 3G and 3GS have no problems logging into our home wifi, regardless of the order that we log on.

I'm going to make an appointment at the Apple store to see if I can get a new iP4. First the 3G antenna and now the wifi. My bumper makes the antenna problem moot, but I need reliable wifi.
