iPhone 4 WiFi issues

I have been struggling with the WiFi on my iphone 4 since I received it. It will download a lot of websites without any problems, but some websites it will just get "Stuck" and run and run, with eventually an error message saying the page cannot be opened. I thought maybe this was specific to particular websites, but I found out differently. I still have my iPhone 3Gs, and connected it to WiFi right next to the iPhone 4. The web pages (Example: Youtube) would load videos and play them lightening fast on the iPhone 3Gs. At the exact same time, the iPhone 4 would attempt to load the video for about 10-15 seconds, and give me an error message, "Video format not supported". When I switched the WiFi off on the iPhone 4 and used AT&T service only, it played the video almost just as quick as the iPhone 3Gs connected to WiFi. I have repeated this problem over and over again, and receive the same results. The iPhone 3Gs always downloads without hesitation, the iPhone 4 always stops responding or results in an error message. NOTE: Both devices always show full strength in WiFi connection, and I am sitting right next to my WiFi router. Again, iPhone 3Gs always downloads with no problems, iPhone 4 always stops downloading and creates an error, specifically on the YouTube web site, and the YouTube application. Does anyone else have this problem? I have owned every model of the iphone, and never had this problem until the iPhone 4? Please let me know what could cause his issue, thanks.

In a nut shell the difference between b and g is the speed. 802.11b has a theoretical limit of 11 Mbps and 802.11g has a theoretical limit of 54 Mbps. Since your internet connection is probably less than the average speed of the b setting (about 5 Mbps) it shouldn't be a problem. However, if you transfer a lot of large files to or from wireless devices on your network you will notice a significant slowdown.

Question i have is: Is my iphone 4 faulty or is the following normal?

Today i bought an iphone 4. It cannot connect to wifi.

My 2 PCs, my other two iphone 3gs, and ipad can connect.

All other devices have a good strong and fast signal.

Weird thing is when i stand next to the router i get a good signal with the iphone4 but when i go to a different room i loose the wifi connection.

So, wifi works on iphone4 but only when i stand next to the router. All other devices allow me to be in a different room and connect with a good signal.

So is the iphone 4 faulty or is this how they are?

I have 14 days to return it which i shall unless someone has an idea of whats going on.

Thanks a lot.

Why are you happy to give them additional money to fix something that should be a basic function of the phone?
I have a iPhone4 and an iPod touch 4, I've had the ipod for about 3 months and never had any problems connecting to our router from anywhere in the house including the garage however the iphone 4 wont connect unless im in the very same room, this is the case with every router ive tried.
Having the iPhone out this long with such a basic ongoing problem shows how much they care for customer loyalty

I experience extreme lag w all 4 of my devices on ATT Uverse WIFI: Iphone 4, ipod 4th g, ipod 3rd g, ipad 1st g. Iphone 4 3G seems to always work when WIFI doesn't.

I've read this thread and others. I'm finding this is a very common problem.

My solution: Switched ATT Uverse router to network b and channel to 9 (not 6 bc I have wireless phones here).

My problem seems to be fixed. I'll also experiment with power setting between 8-10 and moving the router location away from my entertainment center to see if I can get an even more stable connection.

I ran all this by Tier 2 support at ATT and they believe these tests have some merit so I wanted to share w/ you all.

Hope this helps someone.

I have a Verizon iPhone 4 running on a wi-fi network with an iMac and and an original iPad. The wi-fi goes through an Apple Airport Extreme. I discovered that it was taking a long time to download a song from iTunes so I ran a test. I logged on with the iPhone and downloaded the free song. It took 16 minutes User uploaded file I downloaded the same song with my iMac and it took about 30 seconds. Both the iPhone and iMac were about 12 inches from the router. The iPad doesn't have the problem.

I have read the comments and am going to see if the Airport can run on a different channel (b vs g vs n). I also used the link to send a bug report to Apple.

I have tried everthing from every post and then was able to fix it by switching to 801. N not b and not g I have a router with dual mode 2.5 ghz and 5ghz all pcs and iPad works fine on 5 ghz, but iPhone is not equipped with chip for 5 ghz. I had to setup the router with the one that I read that the iPhone uses and suddenly all 3 iPhone and one iPod in my house workday fine. It is. Combination of wireless device on iPhone 4 and congested air. It happened to steve job himself while he was comparing iPhone 3 with iphone4 on stage.

I have a iPhone W-Fi issue, but it is not my home router. I am paying Verizon $20/month to use my iPhone as a Wi-Fi hotspot for my company latop. I use it at a government client site since they will not allow me to access company sites for timekeeping, management reports, invoicing, etc. I used to have intermittant success connecting, but now I can never connect. I have four bars on the phone, yet on my laptop it does not even show the iPhone 4 Wi-Fi site, even though it shows a number of other sites in the local area (Fort Belvoir, VA).

I have called Verizon over a dozen times (they have had limited success and they are on strike right now). The last time I called them, they attempted to get Apple on the phone with no success. I later called Apple myself and they said check the Apple discussions for a solution or pay $67 for two-years support coverage. I understand why they need to do this as the iPhone was purchased in February 2011 and it is out of the 90-day support window, but when the feature set is not working and I've tried everything possible (network resets, resets on the Dell laptop, calls to Dell by Verizon while I was on the line (Dell said it wasn't their problem, based on their checks), restarting everything in a particular order, etc.).

Please, what is left for me to do? I need this function to work and work consistently. What I am doing is logging in my laptop at home late in the evening when I can use my home Wi-Fi to my laptop just fine, by passing the iPhone 4, of course. I'm trying to reduce the extra hours working at home when I can work two systems during the day, the government system and my company system.

Thanks!

Tom

This may not be the issue but be sure your network roaming capability is turned on as well. I had some very strange issues when trying to send email from an iPhone 4 with roaming turned off. Also try toggling wifi off and then back on in the iphone. Be sure your laptop and its wifi system are compatible with the iphone. If the iphone is using 802.11n and your laptop only supports 802.11g, you will have a problem - the laptop will not see it. I don't remember if you can restrict the type of wifi connection on the iPhone. Try turning the wifi on and off on your laptop as well.

Hope this helps.

I had these problems aswell, but not anymore :-)))). I did everything, reconfigurated the router, everything, but nothing helped, untill i tried the router without the password and than it worked! I used a dot . in my password and as soon as i deleted that i have no problems anymore!

I hope this will help you all out!
