Can you do an SMC reset if the battery is already dead? Didn’t notice my laptop wasn’t charging until it was at 2% and I went to charge- tried to perform SMC reset but not sure if it actually happened without battery. Do I need to just replace the battery? Could it be the charger at fault? When I plug the MagSafe in it blinks green once then goes out.

From the battery icon in the upper right menu bar hold the option key and click it open
what is the condition? Anything but Normal needs to be replaced

Been there, done that. Bringing me back to my original question- can you perform SMC with a dead battery? Article above implies that you can but doesn’t explicitly state it. And I don’t want to spend the bread on a new battery if I don’t have to.
