AirPods Pro firmware 2B588 reduce the noise cancelling capability

After my AirPods Pro auto-update to firmware 2B588 the noise cancelling suddenly become very weak, almost no difference from Off mode and Noise cancel mode.

Reset the AirPods Pro fix it for few minutes, then it got auto-update and noise cancelling capability got reduced again.

If Apple reduce the noise cancelling function then AirPods Pro is simple lost it’s point, I don’t understand why Apple do this.

Currently, there is no way to downgrade or "reset" a firmware on Airpods Pro, KayneGiordano. My suggestion is the following. I compiled a full list of our current options to help right now below:

I'm going to reply to all those mentioning this issue with this information so they can get the help they need (and a notification that they were replied to. This way, they can all get help the quickest way possible)

Please do the following A and B:

A) Submit a case with AppleCare

1) Go to https://support.apple.com/airpods

2) Scroll to "Tell us how we can help"

3) Click "Get support"

4) Just go through the menus and pick the most relevant option. I suggest picking "Audio Quality" but there are others.

5) Click "Chat" and let them know through chat the problems and also please reference our thread in the chat: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250887615

(OR you can schedule a call but it may be best to ask for a follow-up call during the chat if they don't mention it themselves)

IMPORTANT: Mention that the ANC quality was reduced with the AirPods Pro firmware 2B588 and the problem is STILL in firmware 2C54!

ALSO:

B) Please also file a bug report about this on the feedback section while your case with AppleCare is ongoing. That way, both AppleCare and the bug report staff will see these reports.

If we all do this, they will see the growing number of issues with this.

Submit the bug report feedback here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/airpods.html

It's now mid-April and my Airpod Pros are still stuck on firmware 2C54.

That's four months of owning a product where the primary selling point of the product was bricked by the company that sold it. No statement. No word on a new firmware version. I was in Grand Central Station when I first put them in and it felt like one of those moments in a movie where the character is somehow separated from the rest of time. The effect was incredible. Such a pity that it only lasted a little while before they ruined them.

No matter the size the tips no longer pass the fit test, whereas they had before. Even a breeze blowing against them causes them to pop and crackle if ANC or transparency mode is activated. I hope this is sorted soon but not holding my breath.

Just came here to say I am having the same issue. I have a very routine life and thought maybe I was just 'getting used' to the NC but I was sure I was hearing more outside noise at certain places and times where previously there was none. These buds blew me away when I first tried some then bought some. Now I can barely tell any difference with ANC on or off. Please fix ASAP Apple this isn't good.

Don't be like Bose!!

That's good.

Same experience as I had. (I don't know if you saw my post on the last page?)

Passed the fit test

Same amount of bass with ANC OFF

Sound fuller and just better

No distortion when talking on the phone (with ANC/Transparency mode ON)

I start to wonder, is it something about production date as well? I got my first ones very early, with 2B576 installed.

I'm running 13.4.1 on my mobile devices (iPhone and two iPads) and the latest Catalina on my MBP - I hear no difference whatsoever in the degraded ANC.

This really doesn't make sense anyway - you can use Airpods + ANC over a standard bluetooth connection with a non-Apple device (I know people who've bought them that don't even own an Apple device), and in fact the ANC even functions without being connected to any device at all.

Did they discuss anything about if 2D3 fixed any of the issues? I doubt they would give you the information but curious… Did they mention anything about if 2D3 fixed anything else or what the point of it was? I haven’t seen any cases of anybody with two AirPods running 2D3 successfully… I’m not even sure why that firmware was released in the way that it was. 😭

Yes, they have tried to do the same with me which is why you will see me directly addressing the mods that state my posts are not against the ToS (because they aren't).

Anyone subscribed to this thread gets an email with the original posts anyway so I've been reading through them. All the talks about CAL (can't write it here) and similar things (your 3rd point) are all removed now.

However, I think that could be a valid way to go. I am considering contacting Apple again and re-opening my case... The last rep was very unhelpful.

I've had 3 pairs of AirPods and swapped out many individual L and R AirPods and of course they all still have the Nov 2019 ANC issue and none of them have ever wirelessly charged successfully for more than 5 minutes or so (also a known issue).

[Mods: This post does not go against the ToS and is meant to continue dialog within this post to look for additional solution to the bug we are are still having. Other solutions are being discussed and we are sharing what we all have done to see if we can find a solution]

This is my second time responding to this, I am quite frustrated that nothing has been said by apple and that comments are being deleted. I have had my AirPods replaced and had the amazing anc I remember from day one for about an hour and then they updated and so unfortunately it proved that the degradation was not in my head. I keep telling Siri to turn on noise cancelling and she usually replies that it is already on. I would just like a timeline or to know if I should sell the AirPods and get something that delivers what was promised. Thank you!
