why isn't my iphone showing up as a device on apple music?

I upgraded to Mac OSCatalina (10.15.1) on my mac, and now it seems apple music has replaced iTunes, and my iphone is not showing up in the apple music application at all. Where has it gone? I'm plugged into a USB cable, have tried different plug in locations already. Cheers!
