I recently bought a $100 Visa Gift card to use on a different platform and to add it on my phone after. Once I bought what I wanted without adding the card to my phone yet, it still said I had $30.00 on the card. However, once I added the card to my phone without buying anything yet, they charged me $9.97 for something? Now I can’t buy what I wanted to buy anymore. Does Apple tax Visa Gift Cards if you just add them to your phone?
They do not but you might have owed money on a previous purchase or subscription and that gets charged automatically once balance becomes available. See:

Really? How would I be able to see what it was that charged me? I remember signing up for a monthly subscription on a game but it was only $4.99 and I cancelled it a while ago.
