Why do I get a message (NSURLErrorDomain error -1012.) and cannot update the apple apps (pages, numbers etc... ) on my 2010 MacBook pro?

What macOS version are you running? That's important to this discussion. If you are not running the maximum OS version you computer will handle (High Sierra 10.13.6), those Apple apps may not update. Pages, Numbers, and Keynote have always been tied to the OS version and quickly leave older OS version unsupported.
The current versions of Pages, Numbers, and keynote require OS 10.14 Mojave, an OS version your computer is too old to use.
