Issue with Apple Music insomuch that playing albums leads to tracks being skipped and then whole thing doesn't let me play anything else. Can navigate Music, but nothing plays. Have to close Music and re-start again. Really frustrating and have noticed Catalina itself seems to be so fragile - sometimes whole thing crashes if I have ipPhone plugged in to sync/charge

Try rebooting your router and your computer in case that gets you a more stable connection to Apple servers. In addition try Music > Preferences > Advanced > Reset Cache.
