You may want to remove iTunes and all of its components, which includes the Apple Software Update. Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later - Apple Support, then reinstall. It could be a bad component when you updated Windows and this should correct it.

Hi Chris,

In the past I received these notifications from Apple in a pop up Window informing me that there was/were an update/s for various Apple software components. I would click on the button to say download and update and the software would download and update, and the final action would be to say "checking for any new updates", and then invariably say "your software is up to date.

It failed this time (1st update after upgrading my Windows software), and suggested I repeat the action but this time just download the software and install manually. I did so, and everything received the green tick that it had completed OK. I then tried to install but it failed again. I suspect that Apple's records still show I am running Windows 7 Pro and the software and files downloaded are customized for that OS. Perhaps Apple need to send me updates for Win 10?
