Nightstand mode on series 5 won’t display correctly

I thought my watch wasn’t charging because when I placed the watch sideways (crown up) nightstand mode didn’t activate. I toggled the nightstand mode on and off, changed wrist orientation, forced restart. But now nightstand mode activates and displays sideways, like it’s still on my wrist. I am using the out of the box Apple charger and just upgraded to the new iOS.

Hi Rychlewc,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! I see you're having an issue with Nightstand Mode on your Apple Watch, and I'd like to do what I can to help.

Have you restarted your Apple Watch since this started happening? If not, go ahead and do that, as a restart can resolve unusual issues. How to restart your Apple Watch

Even though it's a new Apple Watch and charger, go ahead and wipe both with a dry lint-free cloth, as shown here:

How to clean your Apple Watch Then test to see if it changes to Nightstand Mode.

If it still will not go into Nightstand Mode, then you can Unpair and erase your Apple Watch.

Pair again by following these steps: Set up your Apple Watch

If your Apple Watch is still not behaving as expected, then you'll want to send it in for service. Apple Watch Service and Repair

Take care!
