Apple Watch SE change in display while charging

When I used to charged my Apple Watch SE, while it was on the charger I could tap it and I would get a display that included a small ring at the top with the charging % and a green bar at the bottom that I believe said "Dismiss". Now when I tap the watch I get my watch face with the battery complication at the bottom, and if I tap the complication it wants me to enter my passcode. That was not true with the earlier charging display. Did something change?

Hi maggiesings,

It sounds like you might be referring to Nightstand Mode. You can make sure that is still set up and enabled using the following guidance from Add an alarm on Apple Watch.

"Set up Apple Watch as a nightstand clock with alarm

  1. Open the Settings app  on your Apple Watch.
  2. Go to General > Nightstand Mode, then turn on Nightstand Mode.

When you connect your Apple Watch to its charger with nightstand mode turned on, it displays charging status, the current time and date, and the time of any alarm you’ve set. To see the time, tap the display or lightly nudge your Apple Watch. Even nudging or tapping the table might work."

All the best.

Thanks for reaching out maggiesings,

It sounds like you have some concerns about the Apple Watch user interface. We can help.

Many times you may notice a change in behavior following an update or modification of a setting. This could also be the result of setting up Apple Pay, as additional verification is needed to access your payment methods.

This doesn't indicate anything is wrong, but may just be an improvement on your device security.

If you would like to disable the passcode, you can follow these steps in the article, Lock or unlock Apple Watch:

Turn off the passcode
1. Open the Settings app  on your Apple Watch.
2. Tap Passcode, then tap Turn Passcode Off.
You can also open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, tap Passcode, then tap Turn Passcode Off.
Note: If you disable your passcode, you can’t use Apple Pay on your Apple Watch.

Hope that helps.

Take care.
