New iPhone XR and whilst callers can hear me, I can’t hear them. It’s a brand new phone - anyone able to help?

If the issue still persists, I would contact your carrier explaining your problem and asking for help.
If you get no help, since your device is brand new & covered by warranty, have it inspected at an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider:--> Apple – Location Selector
