Apple TV components

I'm a recovering Windows and Roku user without ANY Apple products experience. The 3rd generation Apple TV that I inherited came without a power cord (now on order) and a strange looking (to newbie me) USB cable in white. Altho there is an APPARENT USB port on the device I am reluctant to insert the cord since there is a tiny male "prong" recessed inside the port but no corresponding female opening on the small "non-USB" connector on the cable end. There is also no port on the device for the standard USB connector (opposite end). What is this cable used for ? Thanx.

If you received a white Lightning-to-USB cable with it, then that is of no use with the Apple TV.

If the connector matches this image, then that is one of Apple’s proprietary connectors, mainly used with iPhones and iPads (but also for charging the remote for the Apple TV (4th generation or later)).

Thanx for the quick response. But Urquhart1244's response seems to contradict yours. Apparently the "lightning-to-USB" cable as shown is not used with Apple TV. Do you agree ?

optical digital audio out

hdmi out

micro usb (only usage is to salvage and restore a failed firmware it for connecting to a computer to restore nothing else)

and last

standard industrial connector ac power (my old sony PlayStation2, random cd player and really really old outside transistor radio use the same cable, should be available in most supermarket or audio video / electronic stores)
