Sidecar on Macbook Air 2017??

Why can't they make it compatible? I'm an educator that would love to use with the devices the school gave, but it seems shady of Apple that they canceled out 2017 models of the air while older models of other computers work.

I am using school equipment. I think Apple needs to resolve this for educators using Apple products.
