Gap between on the left side of icons on the desktop

It makes no design sense - I can only assume it's a coding bug - to let the user adjust the grid size for icons on the desktop, which can move them to the perfect location along the left... but when dragged to rearrange, it snaps them to the SECOND column & the first "column" is not useable.

I have seen this topic come up previously over the YEARS, but no real answer & just closed threads. There must be a simple explanation and I REALLY want to hear it.

In this example screenshot, I can't even drag icons to the second column for the first 3 rows (where icons pre-exist after adjusting the grid size)

Hello Dane.D.,

I see that you're having an issue with trying to arrange the icons on your desktop. I can understand your concern with this, and I'd be happy to help.

From what you have described it sounds like you might have the "Snap to Grid" feature on. You can turn this feature off by Control clicking on your desktop, select "Sort By", and choose "None". The articles below can also help with organizing files on your Mac and changing your options for icons as well.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day!
