itunes doesn't recognize my ipod

I have an ipod classic 120gb and it seems to be in working order but itunes (on a win10 pc) does not recognize it. The ipod is recognized in my win10 file explorer though. Welcome any suggestions on how to get itunes to connect to my ipod so i can put music on it. thanks!

Hello, frodaddy23! What version of iTunes do you have on your Win 10 computer? Did you download it from the Windows Store or from the Apple Website? Maybe try updating iTunes and see if that solves the problem. If that doesn't work, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that your iOS or iPadOS device is unlocked and on the Home screen.
  2. Check that you have the latest software on your Mac or Windows PC. If you're using iTunes, make sure you have the latest version.
  3. Make sure that your device is turned on.
  4. If you see a Trust this Computer alert, unlock your device and tap Trust.
  5. Unplug all USB accessories from your computer except for your device. Try each USB port to see if one works. Then try a different Apple USB cable.*
  6. Restart your computer and iPhone, iPad, or iPod.
  7. Try connecting your device to another computer. If you have the same issue on another computer, contact Apple Support.
