"Invalid sibling link" on external HD
Hi everyone --
I use two external HD to back up my MacBookAir (and files from another HD on which I store files that do not fit on my MBA-SSD) using TimeMachine. A week ago the backup process on one of these two backup-HDs failed - DiskUtility told me there is an "invalid sibling link" on the disk and it cannot repair it.
Because these are the back-ups, so far I have not lost any data. That is the good news. I hooked up another (brandnew) HD as second TimeMachine back up, so I (hope I) should be good on that side.
What I would like some help with is - what next?
Does this message point to a hardware issue on the disk, or a case of pointers that are screwed up?
Should I trust this HD if I can reformat it? But: when I tried to use DiskUtility to reformat the HD this failed (making me think that I should consider the disk "lost")
Could anyone please shed some light on this or provide some advice?
Thank you!!
Jacques
