How can I get stuff off of my MacBook?

Macbook said 3 gig storage left - 36g photos on Mac-

deleted videos on Mac /icloud & RECENTLY DELETED-

now says 40g on Mac!!! - t

his morning says 0 Photos on Mac but they are still there !!!!

How can I get these photos onto my external HD and off of my Mac?

I had done it before - I am trying to quit using iCloud as it just confuses me as to how and why my stuff keeps showing up.

PC is easy - you cut and paste or....you drag & drop!

Mac is great for having things connect across devices but it gets confusing as there seem to be other pace where things are stored taking up space.

Drag the Photos Library from the internal drive to the external Drive.

If it really are duplicates, you can remove them. You’ll have to check carefully or use an app like Gemini (not free)

Since you are syncing the photos to the external, have you deleted the Photos Library on the internal drive. Your users/home folder/Pictures.

I have been doing that. That is where I have been moving my videos files.

But even after I have done that it still that I had 36 gig of photos on my Mac.

So I went into iCloud and deleted the videos that I had moved then I went into RECENTLY DELETED FILES on iCloud and deleted those as well. When I checked my storage after all of that - it said that I had 40 gig of photos on my Mac!!!

This morning, it still said I only had 3gig storage on Mac but the photos were at -0-!!!

How can this be?

Thanks for the info. The HD says that I only have around 18 gig and the Storage link says around 22 gig!

I had found a place one time where there were tons of duplicate items under Documents what the heck is that?

The info you get by Clicking on the Apple-icon, 'About this Mac, Storage' often is incorrect.

In Finder, right click on your internal HD, then left click on 'Get info'. See how much storage is occupied
