I have a series 1 watch A1554. I am UNABLE to update the software from the os 4.32 to the latest also I do not show the WIFI symbol on the watch itself to turn it on or off? Can someone give me guidance please. I have an iPhone XR which has the latest 13 os on it and I have reset the watch a few times per the reading I’ve done trying to get it to function

That is a 1st Generation Apple Watch and cannot be updated past watchOS 4.3.2 but as you've already discovered it can be paired with an iPhone Xr running any iOS version.

You most likely have the Original watch....which is no longer updatable. Many people confuse the Original watch with the Series 1.
A 1st generation watch won't pair with an iphone xr,the watch will not update past watchos4 and the iphone xr requires a watch with watchos6 or higher.
