MacOS will not open Captive Portal window on public Wi-Fi

On MacOS Catalina 10.15.1, the captive portal login window does not open automatically after connecting to a public Wi-Fi network, preventing usage of the internet connection. This appears to be an ongoing bug on multiple different networks I have tried.

Until this is fixed, I have discovered a workaround: after the wi-fi network is connected, you can launch the captive portal login window manually. Navigate to

/System/Library/CoreServices

and double-click / launch the app called

Captive Network Assistant.app

This should bring up the captive portal.
