incompatible RAW files

Neither the MacBook Air or iPad Pro recognise the RAW files from my new Olympus OM-D EM5 Mk111. They do recognise .jpg files. I have had an Olympus OM-D EM1 for some time and never had a problem with RAW files.

I had the problem with Mojave on MacBook so updated to Catalina but problem remains. I am running iPadOS 13.2 on iPad and again files not recognised.

I use ON1 as an editing program and it has no problem with the RAW files accessed from the MacBook

Does anyone have any ideas or is it just that Apple is behind in compatibility issues please?

Thanks

Laurie

Is this Olympus OM-D EM5 MKIII a new camera on the market, if so it may be too new for Apple to have included it

in their RAW camera database as yet. If and when Apple adds it to their RAW camera database it will only be available for macOS Catalina (the RAW camera database is updated when a new incremental version of OS is released, so perhaps in 10.15.2), Apple does not make newer camera models RAW files backwards compatible for older OS's. This I believe is the latest list of cameras supported by Catalina, the OM-D EM5 MKIII is not included.

In the meantime you could download the Adobe DNG Converter, it is free and version 12 supports your new camera. And should be able to run on OS's back to macOS High Sierra.

This will convert your new cameras RAW files to the .dng format and then you will be able to see/ read your images in Finder, Quicklook, Preview and Photos.
