charge with 61 volt charger instead of 96 volt charger

My Macbook pro 16-inch comes with a 96 volt charger.

Can I, once in a while, use a 61 volt charger ?

And the inverse, is it okay to charge a 13-inch MacBook with a 96 volt charger, instead of 61 volt charger ?

Thank you

MacBook

From the link:

"Power adapters for Mac notebooks are available in 29W, 30W, 45W, 60W, 61W, 85W, 87W, and 96W varieties. You should use the appropriate wattage power adapter for your Mac notebook. You can use a compatible higher wattage power adapter without issue, but it won't make your computer charge faster or operate differently. If you use a power adapter that is lower in wattage than the adapter that came with your Mac, it won't provide enough power to your computer."

Using a smaller capacity power adapter is not recommended. If you are completely stuck, you could use it to charge overnight while your computer is nominally OFF.

While running, your Mac expects to use the full anticipated output of the connected power adapter AND "borrow" power from the battery on a moment-by-moment basis.

Using a too-small power adapter can cause your Mac to demand more power than is actually available, and force an emergency power-down. That is not a good idea.

But it does not answers my question. Talking about the adapter and not the cable.

In the old days when there were only two MBP adapters of different wattage, no battery damage but the rule was you could charge, or you could run the computer, but not both. That was the past.

Today there are so many different adapters that I doubt any of your fellow end users here want to stick their neck out to make such a blanket statement. I know I've changed my tune to "use only the correct adaptor" since the proliferation of different adaptors and connectors.

Again we're end users, not Apple, If you want a definite answer, you'll need to contact the Mothership.
