MacBook Air 2022 M2 13 inch Charger

Hey,

Can one use a MacBook Pro 2016 MagSafe 45W charger for the MacBook Air 2022 M2 which comes with a 30W MagSafe charger? It may charge faster, but is it safe?

  • The 2015 MacBook Pro shipped with a 60W power adapter with an integral MagSafe 2 cable.
  • 2016 MBP models shipped with a USB power adapter and cable.
  • A 2022 MacBook Air shipped with a 30W USB-C power adapter and a separate MagSafe 3 cable.

As you can see the cable connectors are different. However, you can use any USB-C power cable to charge your new MacBook Air. Refer to Charge your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro - Apple Support.

You can also Fast charge your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro - Apple Support.

In any event using a power adapter with a higher capacity than required won't damage your Mac.

Something is wrong with the information you posted. A 45W MagSafe power adapter is appropriate for some MacBook Air models. No MacBook Pro ever shipped with a 45W MagSafe power adapter. 85W yes, 45W no. If you have in fact been using a MacBook Air's 45W power adapter for your MacBook Pro, you may have already determined it will charge much more slowly or not at all if you are actively using the MacBook Pro.

Please amend the information you posted for a definitive answer, or read Identify your Mac power adapter - Apple Support.

When discussing higher vs. lower Mac power adapters though, the following is applicable:

It may charge faster...

No it won't.

... but is it safe?

Yes it is.
