See here: Downloading Older iOS 9.3.5 Versions of Applications - Apple Community

No such thing as an "Old versions" section in the App store. There is no way to know if its available. You just need to try and get it as explained above.

Not certain Netflix is still keeping an iOS 9 compatible version on the App store though.

Sorry,

This is NOT going to happen for you.

While Netflix is STILL supporting all of their older iOS versions of their apps, across many iOS versions and older iDevices, Netflix corporation has removed all of these older versions of their iOS Netflix app or have prevented their older versions of their Netflix app from being able to be initially downloaded from Apple's iOS App Store servers, any longer.

You can no longer get any older versions of the Netflix app, any longer!

Netflix has prevented this, now.

This happened this past Spring 2019.

They are only supporting their 64-bit version/s of their app, now!

Even my workaround procedure link, supplied here, will NO LONGER WORK for getting an older Netflix app, any longer.

Again, Sorry.

If you need/want Netflix for an iPad, you will need to purchase a much, newer ( used ) iPad or a new or discounted, refurbished iPad from Apple or from the Apple Website.

Sorry, but it is the way it is, now!

Netflix has stopped allowing their older Netflix app from being initially downloaded to any older iDevices, any longer.

Good Luck to You!

It is NOT Apple who decides what iDevices and iOS versions to support.

That decision is strictly up to the apps developers. Apple plays no part in what apps developers decide to do with THEIR own software.

Your “ beef” is with the software developers.

Software devs supported these older devices for another 3 years, or so, after Apple stopped support of these devices after both iOS 9 AND one year later, iOS 10.

We are waaaay past the “upgrade older iDevices to iOS 10 stage.

Way past this point!

These older 7, 8 and 9-year old devices are 32-bit hardware devices that can only run older 32-bit software.

Apple and third party devs have moved to 64-bit hardware and software, now, which is completely incompatible with older 32-bit technology.

This transition happened with iOS 11will continue beyond with iOS 13/iPadOS 13 and any later, future iOS/iPadOS versions.

Since the beginning of 2019, all third party developers are ONLY supporting their 64-bit app versions and are abandoning support of their older, 32-bit version apps, now!

Many older apps already installed on these older devices will, mostly, still work. Some apps won’t.

Those older apps that rely mostly on an active Internet connection and more modern Internet protocols and content streaming protocols will, in most instances, will fail to work/operate, any longer.

Converslely, other older apps installed on these older devices that do not always need an activr Internet connection to function, should all still continue to work just fine.

Technology marches on and all technology makers and technology software makers must continue to move on and stay cutting edge and relevant to make money and survive in an ever changing market place.

This is the way technology works, with older technologies being sacrificed, at some point in time, to make room for many newer, more powerful technologies and devices.

If you cannot afford to upgrade 7, 8 and 9 years old devices to a more modern and powerful and capable device, than this is your issue and not the device maker.

Technology marches on and continues to move at a fairly brisk/accelerated pace.

Sorry. It is what it is at this very late date.

If you need an iPad that can run the latest and greatest versions of iOS, as well as, the most current apps available, then, you will need to ugrade and purchase new iPad hardware from Apple or a discounted, refurbished iPad from Apple’s Refurbished & Clearance section of Apple’s Website.

Apple supports their computing hardware longer than anyone else in the computer or mobile device space/industry, but is NOT going to support their aging products for 10, 15, 20 years, or more.

Not ever going to happen.

No one in the technolgy industry does this, any longer.

Also, the components in old iPads and iPhones can be recycled.

These devices are NOT simply “throw away”, disposable devices, as you claim.

Apple recycles many of the components of their mobile devices and computers

You should responsibly try to recycle any old technology when you can when it no longer works or does the things you needed an older device to do.

I hope I was better able to clarify things for you.

Best of Luck to You!

My wife and I decided a few months ago to ditch Netflix as most of their original programming is garbage and they just aren't posting enough new and current movie releases to their streaming service.

We are done with Netflix until such time as Netflix starts offering more in the way of new and, relatively, current theatrical movie releases.

Many, MANY third party apps are no longer supporting 7, 8 and 9-year old device, any longer.

These mobile devices are simply too old and, in most cases, the internal hardware is simply severely underpowered.

It is what it is.

There should be a way to upgrade them to accommodate the ability to upgrade to 10.0 or newer. I have several old iPads in awesome condition, that work great, but can’t use for much of anything anymore! It’s not like Apple GAVE them to us for FREE!! We paid top dollar for them new! They should figure out a way to support them for us!

They are basically saying that ALL Apple devices are intended to be DISPOSABLE! Sad...

After reading the replies to your question, I’m disappointed.

Pretty much everything is disposable (especially materialistic things) and not meant to last a lifetime. Apple just cannot give you the latest iOS version, as the hardware just cannot run it anymore. If Apple could, they would.

And Netflix has decided to limit their app to devices capable of running iOS 12.0 or higher. That is no requirement by Apple, not yet. Many new released or updated Apps still support devices on iOS 8.0.

You must have the iPad mini 1st gen (late 2012), or the iPad 2 (early 2011) or iPad 3 (early 2012), as those iPad models are stuck on iOS 9.3 and they cannot support anything over iOS 9.3.5/9.3.6. They are simply too old and their hardware just cannot support iOS 10, 11, 12 or the latest, 13.

Apple's current gen, entry-level iPad is 329$ (www.apple.com/ipad), and you can find refurbished models of iPads online starting at only 299$. All of them support iPadOS 13, the latest. (https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished/ipad)

I don't think that 300$ for a new device is too much to ask after 7 or 8 years. Electronic Devices don't last that long, maybe you can still use them after that period of time, but don't expect much support when it comes to apps or new iOS versions. Every Device has it's limit and 7 or 8 years is a really long time for one device. When you buy a car for example, you also know that it won't last forever. After 20 years and 250.000 Miles you may need to replace it.

Think of it this way: You buy an iPad for let's say 329$ (which is the current price, they used to be more 8 years ago, mind you), and you get to use it. After a certain period of time (many years), the hardware (Chipset + RAM) of your device will be incapable of running the latest iOS version and that of course also affects Apps that require a newer iOS version than your device is capable of. That's an indicator that your device has now reached it's end of it's lifetime and you should replace it.

If you want to keep it, that's fine, and you can do that of course, and your device will continue to work just fine AS IS, but don't expect support for new Apps or Software Updates.

I am not saying you should buy a new iPad, i am saying that you should only buy a new iPad when you have a good reason for one. And it looks like you have a valid reason, considering you do it for App Support. And it's not just the Netflix App, many apps in the App Store require iOS 10.0 by now.

What kind of answer is that? Apple cares about the environment. https://www.apple.com/environment/

You know that older devices will be recycled, right?

First you complained about the fact that not everyone can afford a new device, and now you bring in environmental reasons.

No one is forcing you to buy new products. I guess you are fine with no Netflix then. I mean, is Netflix that important? Try to view it in a browser, that could be a workaround if the App doesn't work.
