iMac 2017 built-in Dac vs external Dac
Not knowing i will ask. Wouldn't an external Dac such as the ones from Schitt Audio or others be superior to the one the iMas 2017 comes with?

I somewhat disagree. Noise rejection and the speed of the DAC makes a difference.
Also, the real bottomline starts at the speakers or headphones
that are eventually used and then follow the "electronic chain" back to
the music media.
Yep.

FWIW, make sure the Schiit, or any external DAC is compatible with the version of macOS you are running. Personally I've been running the AudioQuest Dragonfly Red DAC with good results. I've just ordered the Colbalt model and will find out tomorrow if it is better. Hopefully it is otherwise I have to return it.
Great responses. I do mostly Flac or lossless music files and never mp3s or bluetooth so I think the builtin Dac may work sufficiently but outboard Dacs like Schiit probably process the highest bit rates. The point made on what I actually hear is very valid though so for now will use internal Dac with eventual goal of adding a Schiit Modi 3 Dac.
One would hope so, though it depends on your ears and what you consider "superior".
