iPhone not calling contacts in contact list

Hi,

All of a sudden, and out of the blue, my phone has stopped me being able to call people that are already saved in my contact list. It says 'you have dialled an incorrect number' when attempting to call.

It does however allow me to call people by typing their number in to my keypad. It also allows me to receive calls from people in my contact list, but it does not state their name, and only states the number they are calling off.

Any help would be brilliant!

This is most likely caused by your phone's "Dial Assist" function having gotten confused. Phone numbers that are stored in local number format are being converted to international format with the wrong Country Code in front.

The problem hit me in iOS 11 has become common in iOS 13. The phone's Dial Assist functionality gets confused and assigns the wrong Country Code to phone numbers stored in your phone book in domestic dialling format.

You don't mention your country, so I will use the UK as an example. Go through all of your Contacts and edit each phone number. Change all numbers formatted in local format, "01234 567890" to E.164 format, "+44 1234 567890". Once you do this, incoming phone numbers will always match exactly and your friends' names will pop up in your messages and incoming phone call notifications. Good luck.
