do I have to unpair my iwatch from my old iphone when I purchase a new iphone

do I have to reset my iwatch to pair with the new iphone 11 I just purchased? it did not automatically pair and its telling me to tap on "i" icon on my iwatch to pair the new phone. It appears the only way to get the "i" icon is to erase the content/settings on my iwatch and start over??
