Trading Phones

My son has an X and is trading it in to get an 11. I have a 7. He can trade my phone in instead of his x. How do I ensure that all of my info transfers when we switch sim cards? And is it that simple- switch sim cards and log in using my appleid to access my info from icloud? Thank you!
