Read-only files problem

All my word documents are in Read-only now as something has changed. Me and the wife are the only users and clearly have admin rights. The documents aren't locked, but as you can see i cannot change them to where i can edit them. I have tried clicking on the icon, get info but all seems ok. Someone tell me where i am going wrong please.

Confused about difference between a locked file & a read-only file I have a Mac & my sister has a Windows computer. I use Libre Office if that helps. She has Word, I guess. I sent my sister a document in .docx format. She made changes to it without my permission & sent it back to me. I spent over an hour changing the document back. I don't want that to happen in the future. I'm confused about the difference between a locked document & a read-only document. I haven't been able to find much information online. I believe that a locked document can't be deleted. I only want her to be able to read the document but not edit it. When I clicked on Get Info for the document that I sent, it shows that I have read & write privileges but Everyone has read-only privileges. For some reason, I also saw Staff which I had never seen before. When I opened the document, there was a blue bar at the top stating that the document is in read-only. All I had to do was click on the button on the right-side of the blue bar to edit it. I don't want my sister to have the option of clicking on the button on the blue bar. What will happen if she tries to edit a read-only document? What message will pop up? Do I need to just set the document to read-only? Do I really need to lock it? How does the document that I created "know" that is opened on a computer other than mine?

Permissions for "everyone" conflict on each document Hi - I have a folder full of documents that have "everyone" listed twice: one with "Custom" and the other with "Read only" permissions. I think I really messed this up because I kept finding "Fetching" in the GetInfo boxes that never resolved to any user. So I deleted "Fetching" at the folder level and selected "Apply to enclosed items". That's when I noticed there were multiple "everyone" with conflicting permissions. I can change the "Custom" to "Read Only" and then I'd have 2 "everyones" with RO. To make matters worse - I can't delete the extra "everyone". The minus signs are greyed out. Is there a solution to this?

Files can't be Saved because they are Locked...but they're NOT! Hi - When I alter a TextEdit file (or XLS, Keynote, or Pages) which is either on the Desktop or in a Folder on the Desktop - when I try to Save the document I see an Alert saying "the document _ _ _ could not be saved. The file is locked." If I persist and "Try to Save Anyway" the alert states that I don't have Permission to do so. But after checking Get Info for the document and, if applicable, the folder its in - they are NEVER locked and I ALWAYS have Read & Write Permission to make changes. Additional information: If I alter a similar file (txt, Pages, Key) NOT on the Desktop, say one nested in a folder in the Documents folder, there is no issue at all. But if I move an offending file from the Desktop to the Documents Folder I would have to "Authenticate" the move and even then would not be allowed to alter the file. Only Duplicate it and save changes on the dupe. So the restrictions seem to be centered around files and folders from the Desktop - which is not Locked or Shared and where I have Read & Write Permissions. I hope there is a way out of this. Where are the documents stored exactly?

What exactly are the permissions shown in the Get Info window - not just for the owner, the whole thing-group (which should be “staff”) has permission to read and write?

all the documents are on a file on the desktop, and all were originally made and saved on this computer. No imports.

i have changed all peoples rights to read and write and all variations after looking up possible remedies online. They now stay as read write to all.
