Touch Bar Occasionally Static-Like

Hi all,

This is difficult for me to describe, but recently my touch bar becomes greyed out and static-y, making the buttons very hard to see. It is still functional. It's as if the screen for the touch bar is glitching somehow. My laptop has not been exposed to water and there's been no damage. I've attached a picture. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi soreycc,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand the Touch Bar on your MacBook Pro is not displaying the icons properly. I'll be happy to help and point you in the right direction.

To help troubleshoot this behavior, I recommend resetting the System Management Controller (SMC). This may help with the issue you're experiencing. If needed, here's how to properly reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac: How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

If that doesn't help, the next step is to reset the NVRAM (nonvolatile random-access memory). You can learn more, along with the proper steps on how to reset the NVRAM in this helpful article: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

For any reason you continue to experience the same behavior, you'll want to restart your Mac in macOS Recovery to reinstall the software. Reinstalling the software will not delete the data on your computer. It is advised to keep a backup of your data just in case. Here's how you can complete each step:

  1. How to back up your Mac
  2. How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery

Kind regards.
