Upgraded to Catalina and lost all photos in iPhoto...

Lost all of our pictures from iPhoto when we upgraded to Catalina...Old iPhoto was 32 bit and the new photos is 64 bit which is all greek to me!...Is there anyway to simply retrieve my photos or are they gone forever? We would have never upgraded if we new all the ramifications involved....Unfortunatley, our upgrades are set on automatic so we never had a chance to make a choice to upgrade or not...

Launch Photos with the Option key held down, click on Other Library, and choose the iPhoto one.

If the problem is something other than the support for 32-bit applications being removed, restore them from a backup.
