got the newest (11/30/19) xfinity modem/router. Can I use my old airport extreme and express for wifi music to wifi speakers

Post a screenshot from airport utility or whatever if you run into trouble.
I find getting the express into join wireless mode is fairly difficult without using ethernet back to the computer at least.. but once configured airplay should run fine.

You can continue to use your Express.. the Extreme is probably not a lot of use.
Setup the Express with ethernet from the main xfinity would be ideal.. but you can still use wireless if you like.
Without the Extreme use Client mode.

If your Wi-Fi speakers are AirPlay-enabled, you may find that your new Xfinity wireless gateway all you need for streaming to them. We would need to know a bit more about your speakers, the exact models of your Apple base stations, and how you plan to use them all for AirPlay.
sorry for the delay and thanks for answering... Wifi speakers are not air play, had them plugged in to my airport express and could stream from my Iphone. These are pretty old airports but here are photos of their boxes.
Well, I plugged both airports in but neither show up in airport utility so maybe they are shot. I wanted to use my speakers in another room than where the comcast modem/router is or I would try an ethernet cable. Thanks for your input though!
As long as the front LED comes on.. green initially then flashing amber it should work.
Did you reset to factory beforehand?
Hold in reset.. then power on without releasing reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10 sec.
No luck on a Mac do you have ipad or iPhone.. ?? Download and use the iOS version airport utility which tends to work better for this initial setup than later Mac version.
Yes, I was able to reset and then downloaded firmware update for both. the express seems to have joined the network so I'm going to try airplay with my speakers. the extreme downloaded firmware but doesn't like it! but no problem there because I don't really need it. Thanks for your help much appreciated!
