Firewire 400 to Thunderbolt 3

I have an external device that has a Firewire 400 output. On my previous iMac, I used a Firewire 400 to 800 adaptor to connect it.

My new iMac does not have the Firewire 800 port only USB and Thunderbolt 3.

Is there a way to adapt from Firewire 400 to Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C)?

Yes, but you will need three adapters to do that.

USB-C to Thunderbolt 2 > Thunderbolt 2 to FireWire > FireWire 800 to FireWire 400

Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple

Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter - Apple

then your existing 800 to 400 adapter.
