Macbook battery drain during sleep

Hi all

All of a sudden, just recently my late 2013 MacBook Pro has been draining it's battery substantially during sleep mode. When I run command pmset -g log | grep -e " Sleep " -e " Wake " | tail -n 50

I get:

Note the battery charge was at 76% when put to sleep and 29% when I woke it this morning.

Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks

Hello again sihayward,

Thanks for the update.

I noticed third party software named "WDDriveUtility" in the logs you previously provided. Let's make sure we test this issue without any peripheral devices such as external hard drives connected. Also, let's test this issue in a new user account to see if the same issue occurs:

This will help further isolate the cause of this issue:

Take care.

Hi sihayward,

I understand your battery is still draining after using the MacBook Pro a little while. If you haven't done so, I would definitely recommend testing this issue in a new user account in order to see if there's something in your user account that's causing this trouble. Here is the link again incase you need it: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support

If the issue persists, contact Apple Support. You can reach them here: Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support

Take care.

Hi MoonJ

Apologies for the delayed reply...Christmas kind of got in the way!

Just wanted to say a big thanks for the new account suggestion. I first tried using a guest account but that didn't make a difference. So, I created a new user account but had to delete the original user account to make space. It was a bit of a faff but at the moment, it seems to have helped my battery drain issue.

I still don't know what could have caused the issue though?

Thank you

Hi Trece1

Thanks for your reply.

I have already tried a SMS reset but didn't make any difference. My current battery cycle count is 571 and normal.

However, the other evening I turned the wifi off before putting in to sleep mode and it only lost a few percent over night. I'm not sure if this was a coincidence and I've not had chance to try since. Is there any reason why would the wifi would suddenly be draining my battery?

Thanks again

Hi MoonJ

Thanks for the reply. I've removed WDDriveUtility but I'm afraid that's not helped.

Now, a couple of evenings ago I fully charged the battery and then disconnected it from the mains and didn't't open the lid until this morning - the battery was still at 100% after two days.

However, I used it for a short while this morning and then put it to sleep and when I woke it later this afternoon the battery again has drained significantly. Here is the pmset -g log|grep -e " Sleep " -e " Wake " log

I'm afraid it makes no sense to me but is there anything there that can be draining the battery?

Many thanks

Hello sihayward,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities! I understand your battery is draining while the MacBook Pro is in sleep mode. I'm happy to assist you with this.

Let's start by resetting the system management controller on your MacBook Pro. This can help with the battery management on your MacBook Pro: How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

Next, check the batteries health and cycle count to ensure there isn't an issue with the battery:
