Using Catalina Podcasts with Sonos Speakers

with the advent of MacOS Catalina and the new dreadful Podcast app, getting podcasts to work with Sonos speakers is a chore that previously could be automated with Apple Script.

I say the podcast app is dreadful not just because it doesn't play with Sonos nicely, like the mobile apps it mirrors, it's just overcomplicated. there are at least 4 views to show the same thing in various orders. The app doesn't always update and download, the tracks don't always play in the correct order and the mp4 files themselves, well, don't even go there.

in iTunes, podcasts always downloaded, they were displayed like music tracks, the were easy to add and and delete and keep track of.

Will Apple never learn KEEP THINGS SIMPLE.

I thought I would never say it, but Android is starting to look attractive...

has anyone managed to get podcast tracks out of the library with Apple Script and put them somewhere usable?

Hi parishpete. I don’t have anything to add to your post, other than I have had similar struggles since Catalina and feel my long-time Apple-loving and experienced Apple product owner needs have been completely ignored in favor of some unfortunate business case I can’t decipher — and my wish to express the same sentiments you have. Steve Jobs would be so disappointed to know what’s become of a simple, elegant eco-system of experiences that has been distorted and complicated beyond recognition. I will stay with Apple to the bitter end though, because I believe (perhaps naively) that our personal data is protected and that we have not (until now) been seen solely as minions to buy redundant, irrelevant content. Thanks for your post.
