Saving docs folder on iCloud Drive

If I use iCloud Drive to backup the Docs folder on my Mac, and I don’t have an internet connection, will the original documents still be on my Mac, ot do I need to decide if I want them one place or the other?

The original documents will stay on Mac when you have turned on iCloud Drive and desktops and documents box is checked https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mac-help/mchle5a61431/10.14/mac/10.14

but you can move them to a different location https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mchl1a02d711/10.14/mac/10.14

Move items to your Mac and remove them from iCloud Drive

  • On your Mac, drag items from iCloud drive to another folder in the Finder sidebar or on the desktop, such as Downloads, Movies, Music and Pictures.
  • The items are copied to your Mac and removed from iCloud Drive on all your devices set up for iCloud. If you change your mind, you can drag items back to iCloud Drive.

Or the second method is - when the internet connection is essential .

If you open system preferences > iCloud and uncheck the box of iCloud Drive a pop up window appears , showing to keep a copy of documents , and remove from the Mac .

( a ) if you had clicked on keep a copy , they will be archived in home folder that can be viewed by clicking on finder in the dock , take cursor on top menu bar > Go > Home > your user name > iCloud Drive ( Archive ) .

Info. only.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Mobile Documents to see the files.
