How do I login (in the terminal) as the administrative user? I am running as user and am trying to use a sudo command in the terminal. My administrative password is not accepted. Running OS 10.14.

So sudo ls does not work, with the specification an admin password, on a fresh Mojave install?
That is, running the command as root, but without activating the root login.
Your whole need-root approach is going to push you to Linux or BSD, and even some of those are headed rootless.
In that case it seems you agree with Apple in that being root is "nice... but not necessary" 🙂
When macOS went rootless it caused me concern as well, until I realized I could still do everything I needed to do, which includes some fairly obscure tasks of interest to no one else. Those tasks would probably be better on some other platform anyway.
Thank you, John. But I've already disabled SIP, so the OS is no more rootless.
