Why Is My MacBook Pro losing charge although hooked up to Thunderbolt 3 from external 43" LG 4K?

This is especially exascerbated during video conferences. The wattage needed for the descrete GPU to drive the external must exceed the downstream charging the monitor it is able to simultaneously provide?

Easy solution has been to plug in a second charging dedicated usb-c cord to another MacBook Pro port, but surprised I need to do this? Configuration below (MacBook Pro 16" 2.4 GHZ Eight Core 32 Gig RAM, Maxed out GPU driving a 43" LG 4K display)

MacBook, macOS 10.12

Interestingly, I just found on the Apple Website's sale page of the LG 5K monitor: "This display provides host charging power to your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. For optimal performance on the 16-inch MacBook Pro, connect to power using the MacBook Pro’s 96W adapter." So it would seem this could be the case as well with the 4K 43" where the 16" Pro is singled out as needing a dedicated charging cord.
