sleep timer not working on iphone

Running OS x 13.2 on an iPhone X. I've used the sleep timer in the clock app to fall asleep for years. Now, not sure exactly when, but it has stopped working -- and the sleep timers in other apps (like the NPR One app, for example) don't work either. Anyone heard of anything like this and/or ideas how to fix it?

Thanks for getting back to us with that information, Edward. It's appreciated.

The first thing I'd like you to check is that "Stop Playing” has been selected when the timer ends.

Use the timer or stopwatch on iPhone -- Open the Clock application, and check the settings for Timer. Make sure that "When Timer Ends" that "Stop Playing" has been selected.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- If the setting is correct, restart your iPhone. Once it's returned to the Home screen, see if the Timer works as expected now.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch -- If restarting your iPhone didn't resolve the issue, please be sure to have a fresh backup to keep your personal information safe.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- Since iOS 13.3 is available, please update your iPhone, then see if the Timer works as expected.

Get back to us when you're able.

Cheers!

Hi there, Edward.

I see that you've been using something called "sleep timer" in the Clock application on your iPhone. It’s stopped working, and I'm glad to help.

Use Bedtime to track your sleep on your iPhone -- If you mean you've been using Bedtime in the Clock application, review the information and apply the steps provided in this article..

If this doesn't correct the problem, please describe the issue in greater detail. Please include the full text of any messages you receive. The more information you provide, the better we'll be able to offer additional guidance.

Take care.

Sorry, no, that's not what I am having trouble with. I am referring to the tab in the Clock app labeled "Timer", which I use when falling asleep so the phone turns off after a prescribed amount of time. I've used it this way for years, but recently it has stopped working -- the timer starts fine but the phone never shuts down. Other apps have this functionality built in, but it doesn't work on those apps either, which is why I thought it might be something other than the Clock app itself. It's a weird issue but it's driving my wife nuts!
